Rail

Johnstone railway station has a free Park & Ride car park and is a short 10-minute drive away. It connects directly to Glasgow Central Station which provides access to all west coast routes in Scotland and England.  Glasgow Queen Street station is a 5-minute walk from Central and its routes are mainly east and north to Scotland’s six other cities.  Also from Johnstone, you can head south directly to the Ayrshire coast to Prestwick Airport, Ardrossan Harbour and further south to Stranraer to link with the ferries to Northern Ireland.

Bus

There is a regular local bus service from Bridge of Weir to Glasgow, Paisley and Gourock, with express services to Glasgow at peak times www.mcgillsbuses.co.uk  Glasgow is also well served by buses with 2 large stations, Anderston and Buchanan St, with daily services across the UK and Ireland

Should you wish to book a 7-seater mini-van or an executive private hire car for a longer period, e.g. airport transfer, shopping or private tours, we do know a couple of professional drivers who have large comfortable cars who would be more than happy to drive you around for a pre-agreed fee. Just ask us for more details.

Ferries

Cal Mac ferries operate many services nearby to Arran, Rothesay, Cumbrae (Millport) and these provide connections to the more rural routes such as Colintraive, Lochranza and Tarbert on the the Mull of Kintyre from where you can reach the Inner Hebridean islands of Gigha, Islay and Jura. The ferry terminal at Ardrossan Harbour which serves Arran, has its own train station and it can be reached directly from Johnstone railway station, 10 minutes away.  The Oban / Mull ferry is reached by road, a little over 2 hours away by car through some of Scotland’s most stunning scenery, and this service connects you to the Inner Hebrides and Western Isles.

Western Ferries operate the quickest ferry route to the Argyll coastline from Gourock to Dunnon.  It takes no more than 15-minutes and provides easy road access to Tighnabruaich, Inverary and Portavadie Marina, where you can link with Cal Mac and catch a ferry to Tarbert.
